Infos about development around Teeworlds, 5 days over 7

When you think about it, the official gametypes panel of choice is pretty restricted compared to the large variety of gametypes the mods are offering. Somehow, DM and CTF are the only played official gamemodes (could not a find a single non-empty TDM server) while the player can actually choose between a dozen of different mods with different gameplay.

Indeed it is understandable that few gametypes are official because of the high criteria required (being intuitive, simple, bug-free, in symbiosis with the client, etc…) to represent the Teeworlds game, the big majority of the mods not really targetting to be the most teeish possible, there is still a bunch of gametypes which could fit the game very well.

There’ve been a lot of fuss around instagib, and it seems the developers gave a definitive no to this suggestion. Of course, it’s been announced for a long time that Race was planned to be added to the official gametypes range soon or later, but there’s a couple of other modifications that are teeish enough to merit attention.

  • Somerunce’s survival mod: Pretty simple to understand and close to vanilla gametypes, this mod is really old and has been suggested to be promoted as pure gametype several times.
  • The idea of adding the Domination mod to the list has recently came up, and even if going a bit away from the gameplay of the DM/CTF gamemodes, it’s a viable option in my opinion, really teeish mod offering a lot of possibilities of interesting gameplay, even if there is no available 0.6 server running this mod yet if I remember correctly.

The challenge, if the devs team (especially Oy) decide to add any of those to the default Teeworlds, is to get it well done, really nicely implemented (by example something more intuitive for restarting a race than a suicide bind). At least, if anything like that happens, it would very likely not be before 0.7.0.
